When your dog suffers from joint or mobility problems

Cartilage is the connective tissue to allow a joint to move smoothly. The degeneration of cartilage can cause chronic inflammation in the joints, which may lead to arthritis. Osteoarthritis is a progressively worsening inflammation in the joint and is a common problem in dogs, particularly in seniors and large breeds. It has been estimated that around 30-50%1 of dogs will be affected by osteoarthritis at some point in their lives. Osteoarthritis in dogs usually has a specific underlying cause such as elbow dysplasia or hip dysplasia, ligament rupture (problem with the dog's knee joint) and broken bones.
Some dogs hide their pain until the affected joint is badly damaged. Although It can be difficult to detect joint or mobility problems in its early stage you may notice some of the following symptoms:

  • Stiffness and lameness, often after a period of rest
  • Joint pain which may manifest in moaning, restless sleep, pain when touching the joint
  • Reluctance to climb, jump and exercise
  • Weight gain
  • Irritability or changes in behaviour

If you suspect your dog has joint or mobility problems, we recommend consulting your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical examination for diagnosis and treatment options.

How to support joint or mobility problems:

Although osteoarthritis is a progressive worsening inflammation of the joint with no cure, identifying the problem in an early stage and providing support can help your dog to stay active and improve quality of life.
Preventing the development of joint or mobility problems is the best way to keep your dog’s joints healthy. This can be done in the several ways:

  • Long term food supplements such as glucosamine, chondroitin, green lipped mussel extract and calcium fructo borate improve joint mobility, decrease pain and decrease inflammatory markers
  • Maintaining a healthy weight. Dogs with a healthy weight have less pain and less progression of osteoarthritis than dogs with excess weight
  • An active lifestyle to remain fit

When osteoarthritis is diagnosed, besides above mentioned preventions, your dog may be advised additional treatments. Treatment is typically focused on controlling pain, decreasing inflammation and improving quality of life, such as:

  • Painkillers, since osteoarthritis can be painful
  • Adjusted diet to support joint or mobility problems
  • Physiotherapy and hydrotherapy may be advised to maintain fitness and muscle mass
Science proved quality of BOXBY JOINT AND MOBILITY:

Boxby joint and mobility supports dogs suffering from osteoarthritis and other joint problems. It does so using the following ingredients:

✔ Calcium fructoborate

Calcium fructo borate is a compound found in certain fruits, nuts, and legumes consisting of calcium, fructose, and boron. Calcium fructo borate has been shown to have no adverse effects and multiple beneficial effects in humans, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, anti-tumor effects, and ability to reduce pain and improve function of arthritic joints. Scientific research2 shows that the addition of calcium fructo borate results in mitigation of joint pain and improved mobility in the dog.

✔ Glucosamine

Glucosamine is a mixture of the amino acid ‘glutamine’ and sugar ‘glucose’ providing building materials for the production of the cartilage matrix to repair the cartilage of your dog’s joints.

✔ Chondroitin

Chondroitin is a naturally occurring molecule from animal cartilage. It promotes water retention and elasticity in the cartilage, supporting shock absorption and nourishing the cartilage. Chondroitin acts as an anti-inflammatory and provides building materials for the production of the cartilage matrix.

✔ Green-lipped mussel

Green-lipped mussel contains many nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids, and glycosaminoglycans and provides an anti-inflammatory function which helps repair muscles and increases joint function.

✔ Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Biotin

Vitamin D helps to balance minerals like phosphorus and calcium for healthy bone growth. Vitamin E protects against oxidative damage. It supports cell function and fat metabolism and is important for muscle growth. Biotin is also known as Vitamin H to maintain a healthy skin and coat, to support digestion, to regulate blood sugar level and to support a healthy immune system.

✔ Methylsulphonylmethane (MSM)

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring supplement and is used as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory for osteoarthritis.

MSM contains notable amounts of sulfur. Sulfur works as an antioxidant, it flushes the bloodstream and regulates what flows into and out of cells, allowing nutrients and fluids to flow in while waste and toxins flow out.

✔ Single animal protein source of Duck

The health supplement treats contain Duck as the only animal protein source. Duck is a well-received protein source to avoid hypersensitivity reactions in dogs. Duck is rich in iron and provides dogs with a lean, easy-to-digest protein source.

✔ Potato

We use potatoes as a source of Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Vitamin B6. Potatoes are rich in nutrients to strengthen and improve the immune system and maintain a healthy skin and coat.

✔ Tapioca

Tapioca is a highly digestible energy source. Because tapioca does not contain protein, it is not considered as a potential allergen or source of food sensitivity reactions. Therefore it is commonly used in diets that are designed for hypersensitive dogs.

✔ No grain, no gluten

Some dogs may suffer from digestion problems or stomach pain from eating grains or gluten. That is why we use other carbohydrate sources coming from vegetables in this product.

✔ Cold pressed below 60˚C

Producing up to a maximum of 60˚C preserves the nutrition, especially proteins and aromas of the ingredients used in this product.
